With the ceremonial opening of a new production plant with an area of approx. 2,700 sqm in Smederevo, Serbia, the foundation stone was recently laid for further development opportunities for the KOEPFER Group.
In order to expand the production of gear parts and gear components, the search for a suitable location began about 4 years ago in order to counter the shortage of space at the German locations on the one hand. On the other hand, it is the goal of the KOEPFER Group to realize further growth plans with a more cost-effective location and to maintain competitiveness.
After several trips to different countries and evaluation of possible locations, the decision was made to open a site in 2019 in a rented production hall in Smederevo, located directly on the Danube.
After 2 years of successful test operation, it was decided in 2021 to settle permanently in Serbia. The already in 2019 reserved land of 30.000 sqm² was acquired and in a first construction phase an own factory building with 2.700 sqm² was built.
The new production plant will provide various opportunities for the future to realize new projects, further expand production and increase the workforce in Serbia. The German locations in Furtwangen and Ludwigsburg will focus on high-end processes in the field of hard fine machining of noise-sensitive applications in the field of both combustion engine and electric mobility.
